On this day in 1962 West Berlin’s new large ski-jump officially opened on the Teufelsberg, Berlin’s most famous artificial hill in the Grunewald forest, built out of 26 million cubic metre of rubble left in Berlin by the World-War-Two destruction of over 15,000 buildings.
