On this day in 1945 the history of football was written on a pitch in Berlin-Lichtenberg. On this first Whitsunday after the end of the Second World War, the city magistrate and the Soviet Kommandatur organised the first soccer match played in Berlin since the Third Reich had been kicked out of the game.
