On this day in 1935, in the notorious and grim Plötzensee Prison in Berlin’s north, two fair heads rolled off the beheading block. Each time the heavy executioner’s axe had only to drop once. Each time a young life came to any end.

At 6 AM two German noble women, Benita von Falkenhayn and Renata von Natzmer, who had been sentenced for high treason, were beheaded as traitors.

The two spied for Polish secret service. But not did not betray their country for money. Both fell for a handsome, genteel and determined honey-trap in a uniform.
