On this day - May 7, 1951 - the new, post-war building of the department store Karstadt am Hermannplatz, located (contrary to rumours generated by dozens of historic postcards with the name Neukölln emblazoned all over the image) in Berlin-Kreuzberg, opened with 5,000 m² of space.
