GLITTER, FEATHERS AND MILK PIPES: NEW FAB REVUE-THEATRE FOR EAST BERLIN
Today in Berlin: April 27, 1984
Please excuse the slight broadcasting delay caused by hefty jet-leg. Nevertheless, happy to have returned to the “Bestes City on Earth”, I proudly present you with the April 27 Berlin Calendar page.
On this day in 1984 Berlin’s (then still East Berlin’s) fabulous revue theatre “Friedrichstadt Palast” opened in Friedrichstraße 107. It replaced the old venue of the same name: built in the street Am Zirkus just off Schiffbauerdamm, the old Friedrichstadt Palast was in fact Berlin’s first municipal market hall (the 1868 Markthalle, however, failed to impress both sellers and customers, and was soon converted into a circus - which, in return, gave the name to the still existing street).
