Dorotheenstadt in 1928 on the aerial map of the Berlin: with Unter den Linden as its southern limit, Friedrichstraße railway station clearly visible at the Spree and the embankment along Am Weidendamm. Map via histomap.berlin.

Here’s a mostly forgotten Berlin-fact: today’s Berlin-Mitte once comprised thirteen different historic districts. From Alt-Berlin and Alt-Kölln (the sister-cities where the story of Berlin begins), through Friedrichswerder, Friedrichstadt and Neu-Kölln (south of the Spreekanal / Fischerinsel and not to be confused with the Neukölln of today), to Luisenstadt, Königsstadt and Oranienburger Vorstadt. To name just a few.
