On this day in 1938 a ground-breaking ceremony for Hitler’s humongous Volkshalle aka "Monsterbau" (Monster Building) - giant assembly hall planned for Hitler's World Capital, Germania - took place at the Spreebogen in Berlin-Mitte. It was one of the 16 large construction sites opened in Berlin that day, another one being - among others - the Haus des Fremdenverkehrs and a new plaza, Runder Platz, where new Ost-West-Axis was to cross Potsdamer Straße.
