The photo shows clearly how carefully designed and how coherent Alexanderplatz was before it underwent destructive refurbishments. All elements, including the now forlorn-looking Nuttenbrosche had their logic and their part in the design.

In case you were wondering, the “Fountain of Friendship” was dubbed “Whore's Brooch” as it was one of the favourite hunting grounds for sex workers operating in and around the former Hotel “Stadt Berlin”.
