On this day in 1525 dramatic scenes played in Berlin.
After the court astrologist, Johann Carion, prophesized that a massive flood would destroy the city, swallowing the royal palace in the process, his “employer” - Brandenburg’s Elector, Joachim I Nestor - fled to the top of the highest elevation he could find in and around the capital at the time - the Weinberg (Wine Hill).
Still the tallest natural elevation in central Berlin, the 66-metre Tempelhofer Berg or what you might now know better as the Kreuzberg was a scene of an almost royal drama…
